What we have done with the blogs this year is that we have used them to tell about the stories that we have read. My favorite thing that we blogged about this year was when we were blogging with OMS. I liked it bacause we had to find things about the book that went along with the book. Blogging allows us to do assignments online and share what we are doing with the world. Writing on a blog is easier for me then it is to write on a piece of paper. For the fact that i dont have to write it. And it is alot easier to type then it is to write.

My initial impression on the book was that this would just be a story about two kids that do nothing but have fun. But i realized that it is a book that is all about growing up. by the end of this book Jem and Scout know more about how the real world works then most kids every should. “Jem told me not to be afraid, Mr. Ewell was more hot gas then anything” This was said before Mr. Ewell Jumped Jem and Scout under the tree by the school. “im to old to go chasing you off the Radley property. Besides, it’s dangerous. You might get shot. You know that Mr. Nathan shoots at every shadow he sees, even shadows that leave size four bare foot prints.” This is what Atticus says to Scout so that she will stop thinking about going onto the Radley place.

I think that the trial was a load of crap. This is due to the fact that Tom Robinson didn’t do anything wrong. The only thing that he did was to help a woman that needed help. The only down side to this was he dad caught her trying to hit on him. So she screamed and said that he raped her. Then Bob Ewell went to Heck Tate (the sheriff) and told him that Tom raped his daughter. This caused the whole trial to start off where Atticus has to defend Tom. During the trial everyone heard that Atticus thought it was Bob that beat Mayella due to the fact that Tom had a crippled arm. This caused me to swing to the side of Tom. But due to the fact that Tom Robinson is a black man the jury had to make him guilty. This caused him to be sent to jail. When he was sent to jail he tried to escape but he was shot. They say that he would have had two good arms instead of just one he would have got away. When the trial was over and Tom was found guilt Jem found a new way to look at life. That no matter who was on trial when it was against a Black man and white man, the only person that wins is the white man. I think that this could happen know. As an example what If the trial was against a convicted rapest and a man with a person with a clean slate.

One of the themes for this book is that no matter what happens you need to stay strong. I had this happen to me when my uncle died of cancer. It was hard for the entire family. What was developing in the story was that it was hard for Jem and Scout to not fight the other kids for calling their dad names. This plays a major role in the book. This connects to my life because i have always been picked on for being a bigger guy. but ive only been in one fight about it. Anouther thing that is developing in the book is that they aren’t thinking of Boo Radley very much anymore.

For an example Scout and Jem get picked on for Atticus defending Tom Robinson in court. Everyone is calling Atticus names so Scout starts picking fights with everyone. But Atticus tells her that she can’t fight anymore. The other group of people are the African Americans but mostly Tom Robinson and his wife. Bob Ewell said that Tom raped his daughter when really she was coming on to him. Bob also stalks Tom’s wife after Tom is killed in jail. I always got picked on when I was little due to the fact that I am a big guy. But I decided that I don’t care what people say about me. I have my friends and they like me for who I am.

The events that have lead up to this year were very interesting. Like the time that Scout and I found the two Indian head pennies in the tree. I know now that this was the way that Boo Radley was communicating with us. Some of the other events that I often find myself pondering are when Atticus shot the dog. I wonder why he never told us that he was the best shot in all of Maycomb County. I also think about Tom Robinson’s trial a lot. He was unfairly tried and found guilty of something he didn’t do. Then when he tried to make a run for it they shot him. I don’t believe that he would have made it over the fence with that crippled arm of his. His wife is now working for Link Deas. The only problem with that is she has to walk by the Ewells’ house every time she went to work. Knowing this Bob Ewell would wait for her to walk by and he would harass her. Once he fallowed her all the way to the Deas’ residence. So she called Mr. Deas and he told Bob that if he harassed her anymore he would have him locked up in jail by sun down. Of course I often think about what happened on Halloween of last year, when Bob Ewell jumped us. I do not really remember what happened after it started. But I do remember waking up with a very tired Atticus next to me. That’s when I found out when Bob Ewell died from a knife wound.

I think that Jem Finch is an idiot. He is the one that came up with the idea to turn the Radleys’ life into skits for their mere entertainment. He is also the one that is daring enough to run up and touch the Radley house. And ran back in for the tire that Scout forgot when she hit the porch of the Radleys’ house. I think that Jem is strong in the fact that he is pretty much not scared of anything. At this point in the story I am not sure on what Jem’s weakness is.

I finally realized that Scout is a girl. It only took me till the third chapter but yeah whose counting. My thoughts on her are that she does what ever she wants almost when ever she wants. The only time she doesn’t do what she wants is when Atticus is at home. I believe that Scout’s strong points are that she is not afraid to tell what she knows. Another strong point is that she does what she wants. I think that Scout’s weak points is that she is a girl that plays with a couple of boys all of the time. Another weak point is that she always gets degraded when she is playing with Dill and Jem.
